10/30/95: Do you suggest any particular aria substitution for Rosinaís lesson scene (Barbiere)?
Iíve always thought that this practice arose with singers who couldnít handle what is arguably the hardest part of the role. I urge you to sing what Rossini wrote which is musically congruent and has many references to the plot (important, now, with the advent of supertitles). If you feel you canít sing the scene, reconsider doing the role.
