10/30/95: At the beginning of Elektra’s first aria, Strauss has the violins re-tune very briefly. How does this work? Under the best of circumstances, this is do-able, and I’d certainly do it in a recording studio. In the real world, you might consider leaving out the one note that Strauss had to re-tune for (below the violin’s range) since it’s in the violas anyway. Few—very few—listeners could possibly pick this out.
